School - Parent Compact

In support of strengthening student achievement, Burchfield School and the parents of students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I (Public Law 114-95 Section 116 (b) and (c) of the Every Student Succeeds Act) agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards. The school-parent compact is in effect during the 2024-2025 school year.

School Responsibilities

The staff at Burchfield School will:

1. Provide high-quality instruction and curriculum in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the TN State Academic Standards as follows: use pacing guides to follow the standards, continually teach and assess student learning to adjust instruction, differentiate to meet the ability levels of students, arrange for students to receive the appropriate intervention programs, and provide students with qualified, certified staff and highly qualified instructional assistants.
2. Hold parent-teacher conferences at least twice during the school year.
3. Provide parents with frequent reports on their child’s progress. Specifically, the school will provide reports as follows: parents will receive a 4 ½ week progress report, a nine week report card, and benchmark assessment reports three times a year.
4. Provide parents reasonable access to staff during non-instructional time. Teachers will reach out to parents when necessary. Parents must first contact the teacher before contacting administration with student concerns. Conferences/meetings will be held on an as needed basis. Teachers are not required to answer/reply to messages after school hours. It will be at the teacher’s discretion as to when he/she will reply to a parent’s concern. However, a reply will be made within 24 hours.
5. Provide parents opportunities to volunteer in their child’s classroom. This will be at the teacher’s discretion and must not interfere with daily instruction. Volunteer opportunities may include but are not limited to attending field trips, incentive activities, classroom parties, and reading aloud to the class.
